My Rating: 5/5 Stars.

From Goodreads: "Taylor Edwards’ family might not be the closest-knit—everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled—but for the most part, they get along just fine. Then Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.

Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Her former best friend is still around, as is her first boyfriend…and he’s much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve.

As the summer progresses and the Edwards become more of a family, they’re more aware than ever that they’re battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance—with family, with friends, and with love."

Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you to the lovely people at Simon and Schuster for sending me a copy of this book for review purposes. This does not in any way alter my review or opinion of this book.

I absolutely LOVED this book, I mean all caps LOVED. Morgan Matson is fast becoming one of my favourite YA contemporary authors. I adored Amy and Roger's Epic Detour, click the link to check out that review. After reading her first book I was seriously excited for Second Chance Summer, and it did not disappoint!

Taylor is spending the summer at her family's holiday house, for the last time as a family. Her dad is terribly sick. The doctor's haven't given him long to live and one of the last things he wanted to do was spend the summer with his family in their summer house. For Taylor, spending the summer at the house is going to be hard. The last time she was there she was 12 and in one day she lost a best friend and a boyfriend. Something she has never really gotten over. It's a really complicated situation, made even worse as they were 12 and immature at the time.

Now at 17 Taylor finds herself in various awkward situations, bumping into said ex boyfriend, Henry. Their relationship didn't end well. Taylor up and left him there one summer without so much as a goodbye. Taylor and her best friend had a major falling out when her best friend went away for the summer and Taylor started crushing on Henry, Big time. Little did she know her BFF was also crushing on him. Misunderstandings left right and centre and now they are 17.

Second Chance Summer  is easily one of my favourite books of 2012. I just loved it so much. Morgan Matson has a beautiful way with words. Her books are always heartfelt and deep but also light and enjoyable somehow.

Tissue warning! I went through a fair few tissues reading this so make sure you are stocked up!

If you haven't read this yet then stop what you are doing (well at least finish reading my review) and go and pick it up ASAP. You won't regret it!

Surely I am not the only one who cries in books?? Let me know in the comments if you ever cry in books!

If you like the sound of this or have read this and loved it then I also like An Abundance of Katherines by John Green and Geek Girl by Cindy C. Bennett.

Happy reading!
- Amy
