The Husband's Secret is a funny, heartbreaking novel of marriage, grief, love and secrets. When her husband announces he's in love with her best friend, painfully shy Tess picks up her young son and returns to her mother's house. There she begins an unexpected affair with an old flame. Rachel is a woman in her sixties consumed by grief and anger at the loss of her daughter twenty years earlier. When her son announces he is taking her beloved grandson overseas, Rachel begins a descent into deeper bitterness and pain. Cecilia is the quintessential "I don't know how she does it" woman. A devoted mother to three daughters, she runs her household like clockwork, is President of the P&C, owns an extremely successful Tupperware business and is happy in her fifteen-year marriage. Until she discovers a letter in their attic labelled: "To my wife Cecilia, to be opened in the event of my death"... Her husband's secret is a bombshell beyond all imagining with repercussions across the lives of all three women."

Thank you to the lovely people at Pan Macmillan who supplied me with a copy of this book for review purposes.

Where do I even start?! Now it has been a while since I read it but it was just so amazing that I need to tell you all about it!!

The Husband's Secret is a very hard book to talk about without giving away any spoilers but I will do my best because you need to discover all the secrets hidden within these pages yourselves!

Initially there are 3 main people we are introduced too. Tess, Rachel and Cecilia. Now at the start it may seem that their stories do not intertwine but showing her amazing story writing skills Liane Moriarty links all of these women and their families in ways that you would not expect.

Rachel is the oldest of the women, with a very unfortunate past. Her daughter died in her early teens. Murdered. The murderer never found. Now Rachel is principle of the school her daughter attended. Rachel gets thrown back in to the past when her son announces that he is taking her grandson overseas. It brings up all those old feelings of loss she had managed to bury. She is now more determined than ever to find her daughters killer and she even believes she knows who it is. Now just to prove it.

Tess has not been having the best time. Her husband and her best friend have been seeing each other behind her back and she decides to up and leave to look after her mother in her home town, taking her son with her. While she is there an old flame is rekindled. He who now works at the same school as Rachel. Only, he went to this school, with Rachel's daughter and was even dating her at one time.

Cecilia is a bubbly and charismatic mother of three lovely daughters. She is a successful
woman and loving mother. Her daughters go to the same school that Rachel is principle at. She is also in the class of Tess' current fling and has a major crush on him. Cecilia's life is all peaches and cream until she discovers a letter holding a terrible secret. Of course I'm not going to tell you what that secret is ;)

As the story grows Cecilia, Tess and Rachel all become connected as do their past, present and future.

This is one book that will leave you begging for more right up till the last page. Which by the way has to be the most well thought out last page in the history of last pages! (too far? you get the idea!) All is most definitely not as it seems in The Husband's Secret but to find out all there is to know you will have to read it yourself!

Happy reading!

  4. I've never read anything by Liane Moriarty before. In fact, I've never read anything by any of the Moriarties, but I think it might be time to remedy that. This sounds like my favorite kind of read, warm, with lots of endearing characters, so it seems like a good place to start.
    Great review!

  5. It was hard to put this book down. I found myself reading a page or two while I was brushing my teeth or washing dishes. That is crazy.
