This weeks question is a doozey!

"What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don't like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!"

Love triangles. They drive me insane!! Ok so they don't always drive me insane and I don't know what it is about them. I will get hooked on a character... and then oh wait no! lets through another love interest in, who is by far not as dreamy as the first. Then lets have the main character pick the not so dreamy for one book in the series and make me mad.

OR there are the times when there are two great love interests and even I can't pick which one I like better. It's just so stressful!

Then there are other things like names that I have no idea how to pronounce. I wouldn't mind if there was a written pronunciation of the name so I could get through the book without having to call the character K short for Kaivusdgvbmjdh (obviously not an actual characters name, but you get the idea).

Cliffhangers. Don't even get me started. They are so cruel. Especially for dedicated fans who read the book the first week it's out then has to wait a year or so to find out what happens!!

What are some of your pet peeves of books?

Happy reading!

  1. HAHA love the name pet peeve, when you have to guess their name and you know you are butchering it. One of my pet peeves is over use of a name. It seems like Lucien and all of its different spellings is used in so many different series, come authors grab a baby name book and find something new!

  2. That is SO true! I agree with the name thing! I always ask everybody I know who has read the book how they pronounce it! I also hate plot holes... in a standalone especially!!

  3. I feel the same way about the names. I'm ok with unique names, but I really wish authors would include a guide or something if the names are difficult. Dostoevsky did it in Brothers Karamazov. Everyone should do it! New follower :)

  4. I'm tired of love triangles and weird names...and will these characters please get a grip and stop biting themselves until they taste blood! Maybe they're leaning to self-cannibalism/vampirism? ;)

  5. I have nothing much against love triangles. as for cliffhangers I think I have been well prepared with all the cliffhangers that Cassandra Clare has brought me. I think it has it's pros and cons, but I say writers are just sadistic to their readers.

    Happy Friday *waves*

  6. HA- so true about the strange character names! A little creativity is good, but give us something to work with on the pronounciation.

Great blog name, now I'm singing, "We're following the reader, the reader, the reader, following the reader wherever he may go..." ;-) And, of course, I followed.

  7. Love triangles seem to be the go-to answer today. Although I do find them annoying at times I still think that they have their place in fiction. But yeah, they are overdone for sure.

  8. Ah! Yes! I hate it when both love interests are good and it gets me so conflicted! I also dislike when the love interests are great and then, all of a sudden, one starts acting all possessive just so the other can end up with the heroine. >>

The name thing bugs me too. ):

  9. I hate love triangles a lot of the time too. They're so overdone really. It's rare now to find a book where couples only have eyes for each other without other influences involved.

I also hate it when there's a lack of communication between people. I find this to be the case PNR a lot. Blah, "She feels this, he thinks that, he's doing this because....". It's endless. So many problems arise because characters don't ask each other how they feel *sigh* Seems so silly!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! It's always great to meet other Aussie bloggers--I'm a new follower of yours :)
